The eVTOL developer Volocopter is partnering with another German company, Autoflug, to develop passenger seats for its production air taxi.
Under a contract announced earlier this month, Autoflug will develop its modular Flyweight seat family for Volocopter’s two-seat VoloCity multicopter, which is being developed for commercial air taxi service in inner cities.
The contract includes the joint development of a wall connection for the seats to make optimum use of available space, as well as production and delivery of VoloCity seats in years to come.
“We are extremely delighted that we can actively enrich this pioneering concept with our seats,” stated Autoflug managing partner Martin Kroell in a press release. “The strength of the product design, but also the innovative spirit of both companies, are a good basis for the collaboration, with this initial contract hopefully just being the start.”
“In the eVTOL sector, we have to pay even more attention to weight and comfort than is already the case in aviation,” added Volocopter chief technology officer Jan-Hendrik Boelens. “In Autoflug, we have gained an experienced partner who understands the requirements of this new market and is prepared to tread new paths together.”
