Elan Head has been recognized as the Bill Gunston Technology Writer of the Year for her work as managing editor of eVTOL.com.
The selection was revealed on July 21 as part of the 2020 Aerospace Media Awards. The awards ceremony would ordinarily be held at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London in conjunction with the Farnborough International Airshow, but was moved online following the cancellation of the airshow due to COVID-19.
Head was selected from an exceptionally strong field of shortlisted finalists, including writers for Aviation Week & Space Technology, Business & Commercial Aviation, and C4ISRNET.
“I’m thrilled and honored to receive this award, especially considering the caliber of the competition,” Head stated. “I see this not only as recognition for eVTOL.com, but as an acknowledgement of the growing momentum behind this dynamic emerging industry.”
In remarks during the awards presentation, head judge Adam Konowe alluded to the social dimensions of eVTOL technology, which is seen as a key enabler for urban air mobility. Head’s coverage for eVTOL.com has encompassed not only in-depth technical articles, but also explorations of how novel electric aircraft could reshape the larger aviation industry and society.
“The judges noted the technically solid reportage, in this case, on next-generation VTOL. That technology is still made possible by humans and for humans,” Konowe noted.
